Hi @TJ8799,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're describing with the HP Pavilion dv9308nr, where the laptop displays a white screen at boot and doesn't output anything to an external monitor, could indicate a problem with the graphics card or other internal components rather than just the screen.
Here are a few steps to troubleshoot further:
Check the Screen Connections
- Ensure that the new screen is properly connected to the motherboard. A loose or improperly seated connection could cause display issues.
External Monitor Test
- You mentioned trying an external monitor with no success. Make sure you're using the correct function key (usually Fn + one of the F-keys) to switch the display output to the external monitor.
- If the external monitor remains unresponsive, it could suggest a deeper issue with the graphics card or motherboard.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the laptop from any power source, remove the battery (if possible), and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. Then reconnect the battery and power on the laptop to see if there's any change.
Check for Other Symptoms
- Listen for any beeping sounds during boot-up, as these could indicate a hardware issue. Count the beeps and look up their meaning based on the BIOS manufacturer (e.g., AMI, Phoenix, etc.).
- Check if the laptop's caps lock or num lock keys respond (lights toggle on/off). If they don't, it may indicate a more serious issue with the motherboard.
Consider the Graphics Card
- If the screen connections are fine and the external monitor test fails, the graphics card (GPU) may be faulty. In many laptops, the GPU is integrated into the motherboard, meaning a GPU failure might require a motherboard replacement.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
