HP Pavilion not connecting to DELL monitor via hp usb-c dock

I work from home and currently have a HP laptop connected to hp usb-c dock to display 2nd screen on DELL monitor, so I thought I would be able to remove cable from work laptop and connect to personal laptop and then set up screens from there but this is not the case. When I click 'detect' is says there is nothing there but yet as soon as I connect work laptop the monitor displays screen.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I can't find its specs but your machine should have same ports as other machines of the whole series

• 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge);
• 2 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate;
• 1 HDMI 2.0;
• 1 AC smart pin;
• 1 headphone/microphone combo

What is your HP USB-C dock ? What is your Dell monitor and how do you connect the monitor ?
