HP Pavilion 27 Quantum Dot 27-inch Display
Microsoft Windows 11

Replaced a MS surface pro 3 running Windows 10 connected to 2 x HP Pavilion Quantum Dot monitors via a surface doc 2 (which worked happily for years), with Surface pro 9 running windows 11 via same dock.

Only one external screen was detected and the resolution was very low and not fixable via display options in W11.

Updated all MS software and (using phone HP support) updated the HP monitor drivers.  (The recommended driver was listed under W10 64 bit for some reason with noting listed under w11, but that's what HP person said was the right one for W11).

No joy.  factory reset on SP9.  No joy.  Out of options.  Help!

Please ask Microsoft: Are Surface pro 9 and surface doc 2 compatible ?

Regards.

Thanks Banhien

i believe the surface dock 2 is compatible with the surface pro 9:

It does charge the SP9 successfully and drives a Logitech mouse and keyboard via a dongle in the dock.

also:

i an worried there is no compatibility or no driver for the HP Quantum Dot, requiring an expensive monitor upgrade to make the SP9 work.

Old Surface worked,

New Surface won't work.

What is the logic behind that ?

Hope this makes sense.

SP3 runs W1 and SP9 runs W11.  W11 seems to pick up an ancient driver.

Both of the two external HP Pavillion monitors appear in W11 device manager as "generic Monitor"s each with a MS provided driver dated 21/6/2006, version 10.0.22621.1778.   In other words it sems not to be picking up the HP Pavilion 27 Quantum Dot 27-inch Display driver (indicated by HP support) which is dated 1/15/2019.

I am very grateful for any further ideas you have

This is what I learned from MS

The HP Drivers are not compatible with W11 (either from windows update or from HP support website)

the only tested compatible devices are:

Tested peripherals for new Surface devices - Surface | Microsoft Learn

Hi Banhien

the monitors were only purchased in 2020 so nowhere near that old.  What a waste!

You bought it in 2020 that does not mean it was manufactured in 2020.

OK, appeared on market around October 2018. I don't know why HP does not supply driver for Windows 11. I give up and hope HP has more information for you.
