HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef0000 (3Y838AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, my touchpad and mouse are erratic.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and it doesn't seem to help.  This started happening around a year or more ago.  I only purchased the computer about 2 years ago.  It's an HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2 in 1 laptop.  Thank you.

Hi @thehumancanary

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Spectre x360 is experiencing persistent touchpad and mouse issues.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Update Touchpad Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest touchpad drivers for your laptop model.
  • Install the drivers and restart your computer.

2. Adjust Touchpad Settings

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Reduce the sensitivity and disable gestures temporarily to see if it improves performance.

3. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
  • Ensure the touchpad is enabled in the BIOS settings.
  • Save changes and exit.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Use the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. You can access it by pressing F2 during startup.

5. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
  • Disconnect all external devices and press the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

6. Update Windows

  • Ensure your Windows 11 is up to date. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.

Hi @Hawks_Eye.  Thanks for the detailed response.  I went to www.hp.com/go/techcenter/PCDiags to update my diagnostics.  Then I ran test for the the mouse/touchpad and it failed.  Failure ID:  60EK3R-000CJS-XD7XIF-G1VB13.  Product ID:  66B4OUA#ABA.

I started having the problem a year ago.  So I plugged in an external mouse.  That worked for awhile but not anymore.

I've researched and it's an HP defect in the Spectre models.  I understand my laptop is no longer under warranty, but I paid almost $2,000 USD for this laptop and this shouldn't happen.  The laptop should be recalled because of this issue and HP pay for the fix.

Can you help me please?  How can HP help me resolve this issue.

Thank you.
