HP Spectre x360 - 13-ap0000nb
Microsoft Windows 11

Good evening,

I have a persistent problem with my Spectre x360 - 13-ap0000nb. When trying to connect an external monitor via a HDMI to USB-C cable with one of the '2x USB Type-C™ 3.1 Gen 2'that are on the Spectre, it usually does not seem te recognise the cable, and I cannot use a 2nd monitor. This problem has been persistent, and I have tried using a variety of cables and different external monitors (e.g. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B083Z8QBJ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B06XKVNMCK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B083YZCT41/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1), without success. The device does seem to recognise 'something': for example when I plug in the cable of the docking station, the App of the docking station I installed on the laptop will say the docking station is connected, but the monitor keeps on saying there is 'no video input'. Likewise the little light on the HDMI to USB-C cable will turn on when I plug it into the USB 3.1. What is even stranger, is that sometimes, the USB-C port does recognise the external screen, but it can take anywhere between 20-40 times of trying to plug it in and out before it will work. I also have two docking stations that I can connect with the one 1x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A™ port on the device, and there I do not have this problem.

Finally, I should add that the system settings - display, when connecting the docking station to the USB 3.1 port (the docking station being connected with the external screen via an HDMI cable),  also indicate that an external screen is connected, but says the external screen is not active.  Screenshot 2021-12-19 194221.pngScreenshot 2021-12-19 194202.png

Steps I have taken:
* Updated all software and drivers for this model, including the BIOS (https://support.hp.com/id-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-ap0000-x360-convertible-pc/23238155

HI@Fbatsele,

Thanks for engaging in the HP support community! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

The unit is a consumer segment. The said combination is not tested by HP. So, the functionality is not guaranteed

You can connect USB C to USB C  or you have to buy HP Spectre USB-C Dock 2.0

    https://www.displaylink.com/products/universal-docking-stations

   or try following HP docks
