Microsoft Windows 11

Exactly what it says in the subject title. The camera is HP True Vision 5MP. The light will turn on but it shows a black screen. I have so far tried:

-Turning the physical shutter button on and off

-Resetting all the camera settings through Settings > Bluetooth and devices > Camera > Connected cameras

-Disabling and re-enabling permission to all apps through Settings > Privacy and security > Camera

-Restarting the laptop itself

-Uninstalling, reinstalling and updating the driver through Device Manager

-Uninstalling and reinstalling the camera app through Microsoft Store

-Installing different camera apps through Microsoft Store

-Making sure Windows is updated

None of these options have worked. This is extremely frustrating and unacceptable, as I paid close to $1000 for this device for one of its most integral features to be non-functional. I'm at a loss for what to do next, so if there are suggestions that I haven't already listed/tried, please reply with them. Thank you.

Hi @agrant611,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration. It seems you've already tried several troubleshooting steps. Here are a few more you might consider:

  • Check for Physical Obstructions: Ensure there's nothing physically obstructing the camera lens. Sometimes dirt or debris can block the camera, resulting in a black screen.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your HP Spectre x360. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve hardware-related issues.
  • System Restore: If this issue started recently, you might consider performing a system restore to a point before the problem occurred. This can revert any system changes that might have caused the camera malfunction.
  • Hardware Diagnostics: HP usually provides built-in hardware diagnostics tools. You can access these tools during boot-up by pressing a specific key combination (often F2 or Esc). Run a diagnostic test for the camera to check for any hardware failures. HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

Refer to this document: HP PCs - Troubleshoot the webcam (Windows 11 and Windows 10)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
