HP Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased an HP Spectre x360 Convertible notebook and the display is way too dull/dim even when the brightness is set at 100% (using the F2/F3 brightness hotkeys, as well as the Display/Change Brightness and Color options in Settings. The Virtual Assistant said to select another power option with the option to increase the brightness, but the only power option I have is Balanced, and I can't select another power option or create a new one that would have a brightness setting.

I tried all the other possible fixes suggested by the HP Virtual Assistant, and none of them matched the version of Windows 10 (1903) I have on this laptop.

My other laptop (not an HP) also runs Windows 10 and I'm able to increase the brightness far beyond what I can do on the HP laptop. Is this an issue specific to HP notebooks? I really hope I didn't spend this much money to get a notebook with  4K HD only to find out that the display is dull as dirt!

@soulkitty

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824
  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
    Have you checked the display on an external monitor?

let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
