My touchscreen driver is gone. I look in the device manager under HIC devices and it does not exist even under hidden devices (see screenshot below). I've tried to download drivers using this website, I've updated the BIOS and nothing works. This happened after the laptop was opened up to look into previous screen issues, but even after the entire display was replaced the touchscreen is still nonexistent. I'm unsure where to go now and as I generally take notes for school on this laptop I would like this to be fixed asap. The warranty has long run out and the computer runs fine otherwise.

@PepperMinty, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Since your touchscreen driver is missing from Device Manager, even under hidden devices, and this happened after a hardware repair, it could be a hardware connection issue. Here’s how to troubleshoot:
Check BIOS Settings
Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (F10 at boot for HP).
Look for any Touchscreen or HID settings under Advanced or Built-in Device Options.
If disabled, enable it, save, and exit.
Reset Windows Touch Settings
Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
Click View > Show Hidden Devices and check Human Interface Devices (HID).
If you see HID-compliant touchscreen, right-click > Enable (if disabled).
Reinstall HID Drivers
In Device Manager, go to Action > Scan for Hardware Changes.
If no touchscreen appears, try Windows Update:
Hard Reset Your Laptop
Power off your laptop.
Disconnect all external devices (charger, USB, etc.).
Hold the power button for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
Check if the touchscreen returns.
Since this happened after a screen repair, I’d strongly suspect a loose or disconnected touchscreen cable. If none of these steps work, you may need to reconnect or replace the touchscreen controller. Let me know what happens! 😊
