I recently bought HP Spectre x360 16 laptop with Intel i7-1360p cpu and Arc 370m gpu. I primarily use Ubuntu 22.04 for work. However, the webcam (HP Truevision 5MP) is not detected in Ubuntu (I tried it on Cheese, skype and zoom). Everything works fine in Windows 11. I upgraded the Kernel to 6.2.10 and installed intel-ipu6-dkms package from the apt repository without luck. Any help is appreciated.

Hi @Unobservable,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are experiencing issues with your HP Truevision 5MP camera not working in Ubuntu 22.04, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
- Check if the camera is recognized by the system Open a terminal and type the following command:
lsusb
This will list all the USB devices connected to your computer. Check if your HP Truevision 5MP camera is listed. If it's not, try unplugging and plugging it back in to see if it shows up.
Check if the camera is enabled in the BIOS Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup. Look for an option related to the camera and make sure it's enabled. Save any changes and exit the BIOS.
Check if the camera is enabled in the system settings Open the Settings app and go to the Devices section. Look for the Camera option and make sure it's enabled.
Install and run Cheese Cheese is a popular webcam application for Linux. Install it by running the following command:
sudo apt install cheese
Once installed, run Cheese and see if your camera is recognized and working.
- Check for driver updates Check if there are any driver updates available for your camera. Open a terminal and run the following command:
SQL Copy code
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
This will update all the packages on your system, including drivers. Restart your computer and see if the camera is working.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Dear Alden4,
Thank you for your reply. I had already tried these options before posting here. "lsusb" does not show a camera listed. Here is the output:
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 06cb:00ff Synaptics, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 8087:0033 Intel Corp.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Since this is a laptop, I don't think I can unplug the webcam without opening it up.
There is no bios setting pertaining to the webcam, I don't think bios is an issue because the webcam works perfectly fine with Windows 11. "Cheese" gives the error "No device detected". Ubuntu 22.04 is already up to date
I postedin r/spectre360 where another user reported a similar issue with the webcam and that they didn't find a solution despite a week of searching.
Do you know if the webcam is a MIPI webcam as Ubuntu doesn't natively support them? I found a github repo by intel for some of them, but I haven't had any luck with them. Do you know the sensor type of the webcam?
FYI, the laptop model is HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop 16-f2097nr.
Thanks!

I'm having the same issue, linux is detecting the device with lusb, but I am getting a black camera screen. It appears to be creating a new profile, as there are multiple of the same device listed when I use Cheese or Guvcview.
