Hi, I have a HP Pavilion Gaming laptop running W10 (4 years old) and am trying to set up Skype to talk to relatives during this emergency. The webcam is seen, shows as working correctly, plus the driver is up to date. If I open the camera through the laptop app I get the correct screen with selections for video or stills etc, etc. The small light comes on at the side of the camera lens on the laptop lid when I access the laptop camera app or Skype. However the app screen is black. If I open up Skype the app itself works fine, it shows the camera as HP Truevision HD but the video screen, again, is black with a message below it that says "NOT SEEING YOUR WEBCAM? LEARN MORE". The problem is I don't learn anything that helps me.
Any ideas out there please?
Regards
Andrew

@Anstonian I'll do everything in my power to help get you connected to your relatives, in fact, here's a few things you can try:
Start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model) and ensure its turned on,
That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.
If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.
To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.
Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)
Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.
- Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
- Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
- Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

@Anstonian I understand your concern, also, if none of the suggested steps work, I suggest you run a test on the webcam using the steps mentioned here,
And let me know how that pans out.
