Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I bought a new laptop not long ago. It is the HP Victus 15-fa2723TX 15.6" FHD 144Hz Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i5)[GeForce RTX 4050].

I mainly use it for watching or gaming. However, I always connect this laptop to a display. The display setting I have it connect is that it only displays the monitor/TV, whilst I disable display on the HP laptop. Because I only want one display, not multiple displays.

However, just then a series of weird things started to occur to my laptop. I got back and turned on my laptop. Now, all the sudden my laptop display also turned on itself, when I initially on made the display setting that my only my monitor would be the one to be projecting the display. At first I thought it was nothing. It's been a while since, I've looked at my laptop screen itself, and I've noticed the brightness was very low. So I tried to increase my brightness, but for some reason changing my brightness setting was disabled.

I chose to ignore it. Then I opened up one a game. Then, when I opened some of my games it was really really laggy. I don't understand why.

I then turned off my laptop. Now, my brightness functionality is back. However, my brightness display is weird. You know how when you brightness goes to extent of your apps going really white bright? That was the problem. Like I couldn't see my icons properly because the brightness (which was working) wasn't display normally.

As for my game, it was still kinda laggy.

I don't know what's going on. Is it my drivers issues or something else? Please help.

Hi @k3vik934

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If you're experiencing lag and display brightness issues with your HP Victus 15-fa2723TX gaming laptop, particularly when connected to an external display, here are some steps to help you resolve those problems:

Performance Troubleshooting

Check for System Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows 11 operating system is up to date: Go to "Settings" > "Windows Update" > "Check for updates."

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Download and install the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 drivers from NVIDIA's official website.
  • Also, ensure Intel graphics drivers are updated via the HP Support page or Intel's website.

Optimize Gaming Settings:

  • Use NVIDIA's GeForce Experience software to optimize game settings automatically.
  • Lower in-game graphics settings and resolution to match the capability of your external display.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Power & battery."
  • Select "Balanced" or "High Performance" to ensure optimal usage for gaming and watching videos.

Check for Background Processes:

  • Use "Task Manager" to identify and close unnecessary applications running in the background that may cause lag.

Temperature Monitoring:

  • Ensure your laptop is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating.
  • Consider using a cooling pad.

Display Troubleshooting

Update Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
  • Check that the correctly identified external monitor is chosen as the primary display.

Turn Off Adaptive Brightness:

  • Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Display."
  • Scroll down and turn off any settings related to adaptive brightness or auto-brightness adjustment.

Check HDMI/Display Cable:

  • Make sure the connection to your external display is secure. Try using a different cable if brightness issues persist.

Choose Specific Display Modes:

  • Ensure display preference is set to "show only on second screen" correctly: Press Windows logo key + P, and select "Second screen only."

Screen Resolution Matching:

  • Make sure the resolution settings are appropriate and match the external display’s native resolution to prevent display issues.

Test with Other Displays:

  • Connect another external display to verify if the issue is with the original monitor/TV.

Reinstall Graphics Drivers:

  • If display issues persist, consider reinstalling graphics drivers using Device Manager.

Let me know how it goes after trying these steps. If the issue persists, we can dig deeper into BIOS settings or even look at a clean driver install.

You deserve smooth gameplay and crisp visuals—let’s get you there.
