HP Video tests are real **bleep**: I have an issue with my internal notebook screen and switched on an external monitor; otherwise I can't see anything, your understand ?? The video test tests now my external monitor and says, that everything is okay. External yes, but internal black screen ! Nothing ist okay !! And before you ask: My BIOS update is brandnew and ALL HP drivers are installed. Do you have any idea ?? Cheers Peter Bonin

Bring up the display control panel and set the resolution of the screen to 800x600, refresh to 60hz , color depth to 24.
Maybe your laptop is trying to drive the screen at the wrong resolution.
Run the latest diagnostics.
If the laptop monitor fails during UEFI diagnostics then there is a hardware problem. Is the screen visible during diagnostics?
HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically. When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics. There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS', Expand the'+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button. The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button. When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one. |
Tap the ESC key after powering on. Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics. Verify you have the latest UEFI diagnostics version.
If a component fails during the UEFI test then Click here to check warranty
If no failure then windows drivers or file corruption could be the problem.
If corruption or bad drivers then using the external monitor, bring up the windows restore options and select a restore point from when the PC last worked ok.
This video describes how to use a restore point. Clicking on "System restore" will bring up the list of restore points similar to what is in the below video.
