My brand new PC did some kind of BIOS update without me asking.  Now touchscreen won't work.  I've only had it for 6 days.

Hi @AnnaG3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Omnibook X Flip 14 touchscreen stopped working after an automatic BIOS update. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart the computer
Shut down completely and power it back on.
A restart can reinitialize touch drivers after a firmware change.

Check in Device Manager
Open Device Manager and expand Human Interface Devices.
Look for “HID-compliant touch screen” — if it’s missing or has a warning icon, the driver may be disabled or corrupted.

Enable the touch screen if it’s disabled
In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touch screen and choose Enable.
If it’s already enabled, choose Disable, then re-enable it to refresh the setting.

Reinstall or update the touch driver
Right-click the touch screen device and select Update driver.
Choose “Search automatically” so Windows can reinstall the correct driver.

Roll back the touch driver (if available)
In Device Manager, open the touch screen properties and check the Driver tab.
If “Roll Back Driver” is available, use it — this restores the driver that worked before the BIOS update.

Check Windows Update for optional drivers
Open Settings → Windows Update → Optional updates.
Install any touch or chipset driver updates that appear.

Reset the BIOS touch settings
Restart and press Esc/F10 to enter BIOS.
Load Setup Defaults, then save and exit to ensure touch settings weren’t changed by the update.

Perform a system reboot with power drain
Shut down, unplug any peripherals, then hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
This clears residual power and can help reinitialize hardware interfaces.

Run the built-in touchscreen test (if available)
On some HP models, pressing a specific hotkey or using UEFI diagnostics lets you test the touchscreen hardware directly.
If the touch doesn’t respond in diagnostics, it points to firmware or hardware initialization issues.

I hope this helps.

Hey HP Community,

That’s really frustrating, especially on a brand-new device. Automatic BIOS updates can sometimes disable features like the touchscreen if something doesn’t apply correctly, so it’s worth checking Device Manager to see if the touch driver is missing or disabled, and if possible rolling back the BIOS or restoring default settings. Since it’s only 6 days old, I’d strongly recommend contacting HP support or the retailer right away, as this should be covered under warranty and they can either fix it quickly or arrange a replacement.

Thanks for this!!

Hello, HP Community

Particularly with a fresh gadget, that is quite annoying. It's important to check Device Manager to determine if the touch driver is missing or disabled, and if it's feasible, to roll back the BIOS or restore default settings because automatic BIOS updates can occasionally disable capabilities like the touchscreen if something doesn't apply correctly. Since it is only six days old, I would highly advise getting in touch with HP support or the merchant as soon as possible. This should be covered by warranty, and they can either swiftly fix it or set up a replacement.

I appreciate this!
