I've had this problem that started a few months ago. One day the pen started working badly. As i was writing, i noticed that when i lift the pen for a small amount of time and then continue writing, the pen doesn't detect that i stopped touching the screen.
At first i just charged the pen and it worked fine for a while. Now the problem presents itself almost daily and it's impairing my ability to do work.

Hi @user111134,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I’m really sorry to hear that your HP Pen MPP 2.0 has been giving you trouble, especially since it’s impacting your work. Let’s try to get this resolved for you.
- Have you noticed if the problem occurs with specific applications or across all programs where you use the pen?
- When you experience the issue, does the pen show any signs of lag or delayed response before it fails to detect lift-off?
- Have there been any recent software updates on your device that might coincide with the start of this issue?
Check Battery and Charge Levels:
- Ensure the pen is fully charged. If it’s rechargeable, give it a complete charge. If it uses a battery, consider replacing it to see if that improves performance.
Reconnect the Pen:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices. Disconnect and then reconnect the pen to refresh the connection.
Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager and look for any updates for your pen and touchscreen drivers. Right-click on Human Interface Devices and select Update driver.
Adjust Pen Settings:
- In Settings, navigate to Devices > Pen & Windows Ink. Check if any settings related to pressure sensitivity or palm rejection can be adjusted to improve performance.
Test in Different Applications:
- Use the pen in various applications (e.g., Microsoft OneNote, Fresh Paint) to see if the issue is specific to one program. This will help determine if it’s a software or hardware issue.
If these steps don’t resolve the problem, the issue might be with the pen itself, and it may be worth reaching out to HP phone support for further assistance or replacement.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

- The problem occurs across all programs where I use the pen.
- There is not any noticeable sign of lag or delay before the pen fails to detect lift-off.
- The issue is relatively old (few months), so software updates does not seem to be the problem.
- When the pen is fully charged it does not have any problems. However, after a day, the problem comes back.
- I can't find the pen in the "bluetooth and other devices" tab. I don't recall having to connect the pen to the device.
- All drivers seem to be updated.
- There are no settings related to pressure sensitivity or palm rejection.
I reached out to HP phone support for further assistance.

Hi @user111134 ,
Thank you for performing the recommended steps, I see that it has not helped.
The pen seems to work when it's charged. However, the next day it's lagging. This could be because the battery is not holding the charge for long.
If this issue continues, you may want to replace the pen. I would request you to contact HP Phone support.
For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.
