Welcome to the HP Community.

The serial numbers for such little devices are not in database used to open warranty repair cases with HP Support.  For the purpose of opening a Warranty repair case for a pen, for example, the receipt for the product is used as proof of ownership and purchase date for the warranty.

It is not, I believe, necessary that you register the pen with HP.  You can try it, of course.  Do save your purchase receipt.  In the event that you need to submit a warranty repair case, submit a question to the Community (as you have done this time) and request help - we can forward a request so you can submit a warranty case.

Is the pen "real" HP?

Assuming that HP were interested enough to open a case for your question of authenticity, you would have to send the pen to HP.   Even if the pen is an authentic HP product (and not counterfeit), the amount of time it would to find the answer would likely not seem worth the effort on your side.

If you have concerns about the pen, your most direct route to a solution is to return the pen to the merchant for a refund.  If the merchant does not accept returns, that might be policy or it might be a "red flag" that the pen was a poor purchase.
