Hi there,
I have just got the newest (2024) Spectre (16 inch), and despite it having a huge haptic touchpad, I'm disappointed with the experience for multiple reasons:
- The highest possible sensitivity is still a bit slow
- There is significant lag between my finger moving and the pointer moving. I double checked it with a slow motion camera. The delay is much much larger than with a bluetooth mouse. I would expect this new haptic touchpad to be physically capable of quicker reaction times than a bluetooth mouse.
- I found no way to change the scrolling speed. This leaves me with painfully slow scrolling in my code editor (Cursor), browser and basically anywhere.
- The scrolling also seems to have some sort of delay/momentum which is also quite annoying.
-> As a result, I find myself to be less productive with this huge haptic touchpad than the comparatively tiny older touchpad on a much cheaper laptop.
Things I've tried so far:
- Change the AAPThreshold registry to 0: didn't seem to work
- Disable touchpad acceleration by first changing some "HonorAccelerationSetting" registry (or something similar) and then disabling "Enhance Pointer Precision": this did disable acceleration, but the delay seems to stay.
- Try two installations of windows: same touchpad feel in both installations
Unfortunately, I suspect the issue to be caused by Windows 11's new "Precision" touchpad feature, and I'm guessing that they decided to introduce some momentum/delay for aesthetic reasons. But I still hope that this could be remedied somehow.
I would be thankful for any help or explanation of what might be going on here.

Hi Irwin6,
Thank you for your suggestions! Unfortunately, none of it helped. I have ran the bios update multiple times to be sure, it has been updated to the latest. I also tried the trackpad troubleshooting page you sent, including the hard reset.
None of it changed anything. Also, I do remember the touchpad acting differently before I ran my FIRST windows update (not now), so I would guess that's when the up-to-date drivers were installed.
The delay is subtle but quite annoying, and I fear that it is by design. At the same time, I'm pretty sure that anyone would be slower with this new introduced delay which I never saw on ANY laptop I've ever laid my hands on.. 😕
I ran extensive hardware diagnostics (and also touchpad specific diagnostics) as well, but it didn't find any issues, and I wouldn't expect it to find it, because the touchpad is technically usable, it's just annoying and a worse experience than any cheap laptop I've used.
NOTE: I also tried it on two Windows 11 installations, the one that the laptop came with and a fresh one (in hopes of being bloatware-free), and I recall the experience being the same on both.
*Also*, I've tried it on a pendrive-booted linux as well, and I think the delay was present there as well, suggesting that the issue might be deeper than the operating-system level?
I think my last hope would be that somehow it's a faulty touchpad, and a replacement would fix this issue..
Of course, I don't see how that would help the slow scrolling issue (i.e. not being able to change two-finger scroll speed).....

Hi @Gergely1,
I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.
It seems like an issue with the laptop hardware as you have exhausted all the possible troubleshooting steps to fix it. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
