Computer: HP EliteBook 850 G4
Docking Station: HPusb c dock g5
Hello,
I was recently forced to work from home so I picked up the hp usb c dock g5 to connect (3) monitors. When the docking station is plugged into the usb type C the monitors do not display. I read on another forum someone having the same issues and the response was "This docking station only works on the business laptop." This makes no sense to me. Why would HP only allow a business laptop to utilize a docking station? What classifies as a "business laptop" as my laptop is issued by my business however the upgrade to the docking station with 3 monitors to be more productive was my purchase.. Please help/clarify.
Thank you,

Looks like it they are NOT compatible. I know the dock is compatible with Elitebook 850 G5 and above. HP Elitebook 850 G4 machine ONLY has USB-C basic port, and the note says
1. For USB-C™ functionality, host PC must support the DisplayPort™ Alt mode protocol through its USB-C™ port. Thunderbolt™-enabled notebooks will function at USB-C™ speeds Charging and port replication is supported on notebooks that have implemented USB-C™ industry specifications. Power button to turn on or wake the system, Wake-on LAN from warm and cold dock, Wake-on LAN from S4/S5, and MAC Address Pass-Through S0, S3, S4, S5 warm and cold dock features only function on HP or HP-supported notebooks. HP does not provide Ethernet and audio drivers on Mac PCs.
Regards.
