Hi @naimisha1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you have half of your HP PC screen is showing black; it could be due to either a hardware issue (like a damaged display or loose cable) or a software/driver issue. Here’s how you can troubleshoot it:
1. Check for External Display
- Connect your PC to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or VGA.
- If the external display works fine, the issue is likely with your laptop screen or display cable.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Shut down the PC.
- Unplug the power cable and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn it on.
3. Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers
- Boot into Safe Mode (press F8 or Shift + Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings).
- Go to Device Manager > Display Adapters.
- Right-click your graphics driver and choose Update or Uninstall (then restart).
4. Check for Physical Damage
- Shine a flashlight on the black part of the screen — if you see faint images, the backlight may be faulty.
- Look for cracks or pressure marks.
5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart your PC and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP Diagnostics.
- Run the Display Test to check for hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
