Hello, I recently bought an HP laptop with a haptic trackpad. It works completely normal except for one specific issue: When I move the mouse with the trackpad and try to click while moving, the click doesn’t register. If I move the mouse very slowly, the click does register, but every time it does, the mouse stops moving. So either I am moving the mouse, and it doesn’t click, or it clicks but stops moving while pressing down.

Hi @Kubisunka
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how inconvenient it feels when the trackpad doesn’t respond the way you expect, especially when you’re trying to click while moving the pointer.
Since the haptic trackpad is designed to mimic the feel of a mechanical click, the issue you describe is usually tied to driver settings or gesture configurations rather than hardware failure.
Let’s go through some steps to restore smooth operation:
Update Touchpad Driver
- Open Device Manager (press Windows + X, select Device Manager).
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right‑click the haptic trackpad entry and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart the laptop after updating.
Check Windows Precision Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure “Tap with a single finger to single‑click” and “Press the lower right corner of the touchpad to right‑click” are enabled.
- Under Advanced gestures, verify that “Tap” and “Click” actions are correctly assigned.
Adjust Sensitivity
- In the same Touchpad settings menu, adjust the Touchpad sensitivity to “Medium” or “High.”
- This helps the system register clicks while the pointer is moving.
HP Support Assistant
- Install or open HP Support Assistant from Windows.
- Run updates for drivers, firmware, and system components.
- Download link: HP Support Assistant
Firmware Update
- Visit HP’s driver page for your laptop model:
HP Customer Support – Software and Driver Downloads - Enter your product number and check for any touchpad or system firmware updates.
Test After Reset
- Restart the laptop after applying updates and settings.
- Test clicking while moving the pointer in different applications (browser, Word, File Explorer) to confirm consistency.
These steps should help align the haptic feedback with pointer movement so clicks register smoothly without interrupting motion.
