ENVY 15z-q100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For an HP ENVY 15z-q100 CTO Notebook, Product number K9Q54AV,

Has anybody ever found, or has HP ever released, any solution to the well-documented problem of the  spastic  actions of the "control zone" Touchpad?  (The pointer moves around all by itself, selects parts of the screen, and even clicks on random links while nobody is touching anything.)

Just hoping.

Hello,

Sometimes this can occur from a device nearby. If your device is too close to a mobile, this can occur. Additionally, I notice this issue: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Cursor-jumping-sporadic-and-to...

This describes a very similar problem

Thanks

Really, Jamqua, "from a device nearby"? Like, if my cell phone, or a television,
is within ten feet, then the touchpad won't work like it should? You're kidding, right?

OK, here's the full story. . .
This thing originally came with Win 8 ( a well-documented MS problem,
not an HP problem), so I changed it to Win 10.

Regarding this spastic touchpad problem, one guy at...
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/hp-control-zone-trackpad-incred...
thinks the six screws that hold down the Touchpad were screwed down too tightly,
bending it a bit. After disassembling the laptop, via http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04499120
I found that the Touchpad BRACKET is indeed held down by six screws.
The Touchpad itself is held by Four, not Three screws. Regardless, in a forum post at...
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-m6-n010dx-Touch-Pad-Is...
one guy thinks that the Motherboard is shorting out to the Touchpad Bracket.
So, I re-installed the Touchpad, and the Bracket, tightening the screws not much,
then put a piece of electrical tape covering the entire six inches of the Bracket.
During reassembly, I saw that the Mom is a half-inch away from that Touchpad Bracket.
So, that electrical tape probably does nothing of value. Regardless, I left it there.
Re-assembled the laptop. It still has the same problem.
Several people thought that updating the BIOS and/or the Driver solves the problem.
I did both. Problem still there.
One guy at
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-m6-n010dx-Touch-Pad-Is...
thought that it was a capacitance/grounding problem, in that HP had used conductive tape
to ground only one of the two copper pads on the Touchpad circuit board.
He thought the other pad needs to be grounded. After disassembling again,
I added a piece of conductive tape, to ground the second copper pad. No improvement.

Some people who had the problem when this machine was introduced had HP install a new touchpad,
and they still had the same problem. HP was replacing bad touchpads with bad touchpads.
Other people, since then, have had new touchpads installed, and they work.
That implies that HP FOUND the problem with the touchpads, fixed it,
and any new touchpads now DO solve the problem.

The Only solution appears to be a new touchpad.
So, HP, PLEASE send me a new touchpad, and I will install it.
I've already disassembled this thing several times. . . I can easily do it again.

HP Still refuses to provide a solution to this problem.  Bummer.  This sucks.

And HP has known of the problem almost since day 1.  They just don't care.

People: Don't Buy HP.  My research reveals that:

Dell  products apparently have Much Better support.

HP still has not yet reached out with any solution to this Touchpad problem.

And, to further torture me, as payment for some Handyman work,

a friend gave me a brand new HP All-in-One PC.  It's also a piece o' crap.

Again, people, Don't Buy HP !

Have you performed any troubleshooting, such as updating the mouse drivers through Device Manager? You may also be able to change the sensitivity in Windows settings.

Yes, I have updated the drivers.  No help.

I'm Sure that IT'S A HARDWARE PROBLEM.
