How do I disable tap-to-click on my laptop touchpad? It's driving me insane. All I see is an option to decrease sensitivity, and even at the lowest sensitivity, it's nuking my productivity.

Let's try uninstalling the Touchpad driver:
1. Press Windows+X to open the menu, and choose Device Manager on it.
2. In the device manager, expand category "Mice and other pointing devices".
3. Under this category, right click on your Synaptics Touchpad driver and click on Uninstall.
4. You may be required to confirm the uninstallation. Check the box next to "Delete the driver software for this device" and click OK button.
5. Restart your PC for the change to take effect. After restarting. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
6. Do not perform any manual upgrades to the driver until it does automatically

In this scenario, I would personally suggest you go ahead and install all the available Windows and HP updates.
I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -
Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.
Now try to perform Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest here is to update the drivers from HP Support Assistant Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Once done, please follow these steps here to turnoff tap-to-click settings:
On the right side of the bottom taskbar click on the NOTIFICATIONS icon, then click on ALL SETTINGS. Click on PERSONALIZATION, then THEMES. The last option under RELATED SETTINGS is MOUSE POINTER SETTINGS, select it. Then click on the last tab called DEVICE SETTINGS and again on SETTINGS. A new window will open up with the mouse pointer options. Uncheck TAPPING and you're all done. Hope this helps.
Let me know the outcome!
Thank you 🙂

Installing updates was what caused this problem. So I am not excited about installing a bunch more, and potentially seeing a bunch of new problems.
I am seeing some people say online that this is happening to everyone who has the standard HP touchpad.

This might require remote access of the computer to fix this issue.
I request you to talk to HP support.
They might have multiple options to help you with this.
- Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
- Select the country.
- Enter the serial of your device.
- Select the country from the drop-down.
- Click on "Show Options".
- Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.
Cheers.
