HP Chromebook x360 - 14b-ca0013dx
Chrome OS

I am using the HP Chromebook 360, and when I flip my laptop into tablet mode it still has the keyboard enabled. Not only that but also my touchscreen is not dual touchscreen. I can't use two fingers at a time on the screen. I can only use one. How do I disable the sensor for my laptop to register tablet mode on my chromebook using Chrome OS?

Hi @SunnyGutierrez, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Chromebook x360 - 14b-ca0013dx is not properly detecting tablet mode, which should automatically disable the keyboard and enable full multi-touch functionality. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Restart Your Chromebook

A simple restart can sometimes resolve detection issues.

  1. Click on the Clock at the bottom-right corner of your screen.
  2. Select the Power button to turn off your Chromebook.
  3. Wait for a few seconds, then turn it back on and check if the issue persists.

Check Tablet Mode Settings

  1. Open Chrome browser and type: chrome://flags
    Press Enter.
  2. In the search bar, type "tablet" and look for options related to tablet mode, tablet behavior, or convertible mode.
  3. If any relevant flags are disabled, try enabling them.
  4. Restart your Chromebook and check if tablet mode works properly.

Reset Your Chromebook Sensors

Your Chromebook might not be properly detecting the hinge position. To reset:

  1. Hold down Refresh + Power buttons for about 10 seconds.
  2. Release both buttons and turn on your Chromebook again.
  3. Flip your device into tablet mode and check if the keyboard gets disabled.

Update Chrome OS

Ensure that your Chrome OS is fully updated:

  1. Click on the Clock > Settings (⚙️ icon).
  2. Scroll down and select About Chrome OS.
  3. Click Check for Updates.
  4. If an update is available, install it and restart your Chromebook.

Run a Diagnostics Test

HP provides a built-in diagnostic tool for Chromebook sensors:

  1. Press Search + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Look for any processes related to the keyboard or touchscreen and restart them.
  3. Open Chrome and enter: chrome://diagnostics
  4. Run tests related to sensor, touchscreen, and keyboard to check if the sensors are detected correctly.

Perform a Hard Reset

If the issue persists, try a hard reset to refresh your Chromebook hardware:

  1. Turn off your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Refresh + Power until your Chromebook restarts.
  3. Release both keys and check if tablet mode works correctly.

Powerwash (Factory Reset)

If none of the above steps work, you may need to reset your Chromebook to factory settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings.
  2. Click Powerwash and follow the instructions.
⚠️ This will erase all local data, so back up any important files first.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
