I have never lost a screen. However I am in the market and all the new laptops have IPS screens. This is liquid crystals between two pieces of glass. The laptop will be riding in my bicycle bags between two pieces of Lexan and I'm worried that it will be bent enough to break the screen. If these are fragile I will probably keep saving until I can afford Gorilla glass.

Use one of those soft microfiber pads as an insert between the screen and the keyboard.

It might be more secure to use a backpack and keep the laptop on your person.
