Hi all

I have been trying to find a way of displaying 4K @ 60hz on this laptop using an external display.  The external display is 4K @ 60hz capable, has 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs and a DisplayPort 1.2 input.

However, the most I have been able to achieve so far is 4K @ 30hz.

I understand that my laptop only has Hdmi 1.4 inputs which are not capable of 4K @ 60hz (although the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 does offer this).  There is no DisplayPort input on the laptop, despite this being mentioned on the specs and only 2 USB ports (not the 3 in the specs).  I don't know if either is a Type-C which again is referred to in the specs: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c06041371

I have tried a number of potential solutions - e.g. using a high speed HDMI 2.0 cable, which fails given the port on my laptop is only 1.4 capable.

(using a Display Port 1.2 cable alongside trying the HDMI 2.0 lead)

I seem to have hit a brick wall and have resigned myself to getting a new PC if I want to use the monitor at its full potential of 4k @ 60hz.  It seems odd that the integrated graphics card in this laptop is capable of running at these specs, yet the laptop itself may not have the ports needed.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

@James240

Its specs

       https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06041371

It has USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.2, HP Sleep and Charge) port which supports  240Hz at 1080p, up to 165Hz at 1440p and up to 75Hz at 4K. You need a USB-C monitor or using USB-C (from machine) to DP (at least DP 1.2) monitor .

Regards.

Many thanks, Banhien.

Just to clarify, will a USB-C to Display Port 1.2 cable work?  My new monitor has 1 Display Port 1.2 input.

Previously, I have tried using a USB-C to HDMI 2.0 cable, but no signal was detected by my monitor.  I think something may be amiss with my USB-C port, so may need to troubleshoot that.

Best
James
