Hi @RMK0001,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding inverted touchscreen issues on the HP Spectre!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Calibrate the Touchscreen

Access Tablet PC Settings:

  • In Windows search, type "Control Panel" and open it.
  • Navigate to Hardware and Sound and select Tablet PC Settings.

Calibrate for Pen and Touch Input:

  • In the Tablet PC Settings window, select Calibrate.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to recalibrate the touchscreen.

Check Windows Update Settings

Ensure Windows is fully updated, as touchscreen functionality can sometimes be affected by OS updates:

  1. Run Windows Update:
    • Go to Settings.
    • Select Windows Update.
    • Click on Check for updates to ensure all system updates are installed.

Verify Screen Rotation

The inverted touch issue might be linked to the screen rotation settings. Make sure these settings are correct:

  1. Check Rotation Settings:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    • Ensure Orientation is set correctly (e.g., Landscape).

Perform a System Restore

If the issue began recently, a system restore can revert system settings to a previous state where the touchscreen worked fine:

  1. Use System Restore:
    • Type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and open it.
    • Click on System Restore.
    • Choose a recent restore point before the issue occurred, and follow the prompts.

Reinstall Touchscreen Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click on the touchscreen driver and select Uninstall.
  • Restart your laptop and let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope this helps.

Hello Kuroi,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Tried everything as per your sugestions, doesnt work. what i noticed is that i dont have the calibrate option under Tablet and PC settings. Only configure orientaion. i di the following ion addtion to what you suggeted:

1.  Checked in registry (regedit) changed touchgate from 1 to 0 restart, then back 0 to 1 restart, still doesnt work.

Hi @RMK0001,

Thanks so much for your detailed follow-up, I appreciate your patience and the steps you've already taken to troubleshoot this issue.

Given that:

The touchscreen remains inverted even in BIOS diagnostics.

You've already updated the BIOS, reinstalled Windows, and

The calibration option is missing in Tablet PC Settings.

…it points to a low-level hardware mapping or firmware issue, not just a driver or OS problem.

Let’s try a few more advanced solutions:

Use Display Orientation Tweak (Workaround)

Sometimes, manually adjusting the screen orientation may realign the touch mapping temporarily:

Right-click the Desktop → Select Display Settings.

Under Display Orientation, switch between:

Landscape (flipped)

Portrait (flipped)

Test the touch after each change.

Return to Landscape if one fixes the mapping.

Disable and Re-enable HID Touch Devices

Open Device Manager.

Expand Human Interface Devices.

Right-click on HID-compliant touch screen → Click Disable.

Wait 10 seconds → Right-click again → Click Enable.

Restart your laptop.

Check for Touch Firmware in Device Manager

Sometimes touch controllers appear under System Devices or Firmware as:

Intel Precise Touch Device

Goodix/ELAN Touch Controller

If found:

Right-click → Uninstall → Restart.

Windows will reinstall the base firmware, which can reset touch mappings.

Run HP UEFI Diagnostics (Offline)

You’ve tested the hardware in BIOS, but let’s go a step deeper:

Turn off the laptop.

Power on and immediately press Esc repeatedly → Enter Startup Menu.

Press F2 for System Diagnostics.

Choose Component Tests > Touchscreen.

Run both Pointer Test and Drag & Drop Test.

If both fail or show inversion, this confirms a hardware-level issue.

I hope this helps.
