My Hp elitebook 8570p laptop does not detect my external monitor HP Compaq LA2306x using VGA cable connected through a docking station, the monitor recommended resolution is 1920x1080, but the laptop is only 1600x900.

I do not know how to resolve this.

Hi

The Laptop does not even detect the external monitor ,I use VGA cable connected to the docking station, do I need to download any kind of a driver in order for the laptop to detect the external monitor?

Thanks.

It does not requires any drivers. Once you connect the external monitor press and hold Fn key, then while holding the Fn key press F4 key twice when the external monitor is connected. Check if you do get the display or not.

Hi

I have done that several times nothing is happening, the monitor just goes to sleep. I have also changed the VGA cables and also changed the docking station still the laptop does not detect the external monitor.

Thanks.

Hi Sizwe,

I understand you're still unable to connect to an external monitor even though you have tried more than one VGA cable and also more than one docking station. Have you tried power resetting the external monitor?

  1. Unplug the power connected to the monitor from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the power back into the wall outlet.
  4. Turn the external monitor back on.

Also, are you able to post a screenshot of what the Device Manager is showing?

Thank you,

I worked on behalf of HP.

Hi I realize this is an old thread but I have exactly the same problem: my HP EliteBook is in its docking station but the 2nd monitor won't connect.  I've tried all the suggestions in your thread so far.

I'd like to attach the requested screen shot but there is no 'attachments' button here.
