Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Screen retention can be frustrating, especially when it starts affecting daily use.
Even though the warranty has expired, there are still a few practical steps you can take to address the issue:
Run a Display Diagnostic
Start by running a full display test using the built-in tool:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows
This can help confirm if the issue is hardware-related or if it's a software artifact.
Check for Firmware or Graphics Driver Updates
Outdated drivers can sometimes contribute to display anomalies. You can update your system here:
HP Software and Driver Downloads – OMEN 16-c0000
Screen Saver
Enable a screen saver that will activate after a short period of inactivity to help prevent persistent images from staying on your screen.
Power Settings
Adjust the power settings to ensure that the display turns off after a short period of inactivity. This can help avoid static screen displays for extended periods.
Display Adjustments
- Reducing screen brightness can help minimize the effects of screen retention.
- Change your screen’s orientation or the position of long-lasting images if possible.
Image Shift Feature
If your device's graphics settings have an "Image shift" or similar feature, enable it to periodically shift the content displayed on the screen slightly. This can help mitigate retention effects.
Full-Screen Video
Occasionally playing full-screen videos can help recalibrate the pixels and reduce image retention.
While these steps may help manage and reduce screen retention, they might not entirely eliminate the issue.
Let’s see what can be salvaged before considering a full replacement.

You're very welcome—and thanks for the update. That Video Palette Check failure is a strong indicator that the issue is hardware-related, especially since it’s tied to screen retention symptoms on your HP Omen 16.
