Hi,
My hard drive crashed a month ago, i've finally managed to change the hard drive and re instal the original OS- windows 8.1
However, the touch pad doesn't seem to be working. An additional mouse does however work.
It also seems that HP can not identify my laptop in order for me to download any drivers.
When i enter the product number hp identified the laptop to be HP pavilion 15-278saer however when i entered the serial number it was identified as HP pavilion g4-1104dx
and when scanning my laptop an error appeared saying it couldnt be identified.
Also the volume off/on button (f6) normally lights red when off, however now this is no longer the case. The sound is working and the lights on the airplane mode and caps lock button work.
does anyone know how to fix these problems?
thanks

Please download the HP UEFI Support Environment under " Diagnostic " from the Support Site: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers and then try running the Touchpad Test from F2 Diagnostic again
You can also download the Diagnostic and run it within Windows. Please refer to this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html

Welcome to HP Support Community
I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...
HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Keep me posted how it goes
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hi,
ive already tried this. It had 2 updates neither of which had any effect on the touchpad.
i have also found out that the model number is HP pavilion 15-n278sa notebook. i hope this helps.
I have also gone into the mouse settings and got the error message that it couldnt connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. i also could not find the synaptics driver under device management. So i have uninstalled the driver, but could not find a working download.
The one on the hp website seemed to have only affected the keyboard for me but not the touchpad.
thank you

Run a Touchpad Test to confirm the Hardware functionality
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Touchpad
If the Test passes, then perform a Reset
