Hi @Chancelie,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're unable to turn on the camera on your HP ENVY x360 laptop, here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Ensure the Camera Is Not Disabled
- Look for a physical camera shutter or keyboard shortcut (like F8 or a similar function key with a camera icon) that toggles the camera on/off. Press it to enable the camera.
Check Privacy Settings in Windows
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Ensure "Camera access" and "Let apps access your camera" are turned ON.
- Scroll down and verify that the app you're using (e.g., Zoom, Teams) has permission to access the camera.
Check Device Manager for Camera Issues
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- If you see the camera listed, right-click it and select Enable if it's disabled.
- If there's a yellow triangle or error message:
- Right-click the camera, select Uninstall device, then restart your laptop. The camera driver should reinstall automatically.
- If the camera is not listed, try View > Show hidden devices. If it appears, follow the same steps.
Run the Windows Troubleshooter
- Open Settings (Windows + I).
- Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Scroll down to Camera, then click Run.
Update or Reinstall Camera Drivers
- In Device Manager, right-click your camera and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If no updates are found, go to HP’s official support website, download the latest camera driver for your ENVY x360, and install it.
- If updating doesn’t work:
- Right-click the camera in Device Manager.
- Select Uninstall device, then restart your computer.

Test the Camera in Another Application
- Open the Camera app by searching for "Camera" in the Windows search bar. If it works here but not in another app, the issue is specific to that app's settings.
Check BIOS Settings (Advanced)
- Restart your laptop and press Esc (or F10) repeatedly to enter the BIOS/UEFI.
- Look for Camera or Integrated Devices settings to ensure the camera is enabled.
- Save and exit the BIOS.
Check for Windows Updates
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Windows Update and check for any pending updates.
- Install updates, restart your device, and test the camera again.
Factory Reset the Camera App (Optional)
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Camera.
- Click Advanced options, then select Reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
