Hi @Tay11a-1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand you're unable to adjust the brightness on your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV) — both the keyboard shortcuts and the brightness slider in Settings > Display are not working or missing. This issue typically points to a display driver issue or missing power/graphics settings in Windows.
Let's try a few steps to resolve the issue.
1: Reinstall Display Drivers
- Press Windows + X > choose Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click on your graphics adapter (e.g., Intel UHD Graphics or AMD Radeon) and choose Uninstall device.
- Check the box for “Delete the driver software for this device”, then click Uninstall.
- Restart your PC.
Upon reboot, Windows will automatically reinstall a basic display driver. If the brightness slider returns, you're halfway there.
2: Install the Latest Graphics Driver from HP
- Visit the HP support page:
🔗 HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support - Under the Driver-Graphics section, download and install the latest available:
- Intel Graphics Driver
- Or AMD Radeon Software, depending on your model
- Restart the laptop once installed.
3: Install or update the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (if needed)
If your GPU drivers don’t restore brightness control, manually switch:
- Go to Device Manager > Display adapters.
- Right-click > Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick.
- Select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the list.
- Apply and restart.
4: Enable Generic PnP Monitor
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Monitors.
- If you see Generic PnP Monitor:
- Right-click > Enable (if it's disabled).
- Or right-click > Uninstall device > then restart.
🟢 This often restores the missing brightness slider in Settings > Display.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
