Hi @TommyP12,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is not displaying anything on its own screen but works fine when connected to a TV via HDMI, there could be a few potential causes for this issue.

  • Faulty Display Hardware: There may be an issue with the laptop's display hardware, such as a loose connection or a defective display panel.
  • Display Settings: It's possible that the display settings on your laptop are configured to output to an external display only. You can try changing the display settings by pressing the appropriate function key (e.g., F4, F5, or F8) on your keyboard that toggles between display modes. This usually involves pressing the function key in combination with the "Fn" key.
  • Display Drivers: Outdated or corrupted display drivers can sometimes cause issues with the laptop's built-in display. You can try updating the display drivers through the Device Manager in Windows.
  • Hardware Malfunction: There might be a hardware malfunction with the laptop's display components.
  • BIOS Settings: In some cases, BIOS settings can affect the display output. You can try resetting the BIOS settings to default by accessing the BIOS setup utility during boot (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del key) and finding the option to reset to default settings.
  • Faulty Cable or Port: If the HDMI cable or the HDMI port on the laptop is faulty, it could prevent the laptop's display from working properly. Try using a different HDMI cable and a different HDMI port on both the laptop and the TV to rule out this possibility.
  • Operating System Issues: Rarely, operating system issues can cause display problems. Performing a system restore or reinstalling the operating system could potentially resolve such issues.

Try these steps one by one to identify and resolve the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
