I have a USB-c port, but is it a DisplayPort? I cannot find any documentation that will tell me this. I want to connect a second monitor so I can extend (not mirror) my desktop, but I only have the 1 HDMI port. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi BH. So the actual answer to my question is: NO. My laptop does not support DisplayPort via USB-C. I bought a USB-C to HDMI cable and it did not work on my laptop. It did, however, work on my phone and my monitor. I will have to buy one of the DisplayPort docks from your link in the thread. I think I will go with the Diamond - a brand I know and good reviews, and only $129 US. Thanks again!

It has following ports
- 1 USB 3.0 (Type-C);
- 3 USB 3.0 (1 HP USB Boost);
- 1 HDMI;
- 1 VGA;
- 1 RJ-45;
- 1 headphone/microphone combo
It does not say much about the USB-C port but machine was built around 2016/2017 therefore most likely the USB-C port is Gen 1 or unknown
It has HDMI v1.4 supporting up to 1920×1080 @ 60 Hz. Why wasting it and run for an unknown factor ?
Regards.

Thanks BH, but I need both the HDMI and "another" video port in order to use 2 monitors in an extended screen scenario. The specs you listed are not entirely accurate; my laptop does not have a VGA port (if it did, I would have my solution). Thanks again!

>>>> does not have a VGA port (if it did, I would have my solution).
Your machine is actually a CTO (Configure To Order) machine, not a pre-built machine therefore the specs my be slightly difference.
Now I understand, you need 3 screens, not two. Please enter your requirement and it will find for you the one you need on market today.

Right, sorry BH. I should have been more specific. When I work from home I do not use my laptop screen; I keep it closed. So I want to use 2 external monitors. I already have 1 connected via HDMI, and I am hoping I can connect another via USB-C. Will a dock work if my USB-C port is not able to be used as a DisplayPort? Thanks again!

Please check above link, you can select
(a) Connection type/port
(b) Number of EXTERNAL monitors,
(c) Resolution
...
And it will give you a list of available docks on market today, including HP docks.
Regards.
