Hi @Shivam_Sinha15,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your HP 15s EQ2144AU laptop should be capable of supporting an external monitor with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, provided the following conditions are met:

Graphics Capabilities: The laptop's integrated or discrete graphics card must support 144Hz output. Most modern integrated GPUs, like AMD Ryzen's integrated graphics, can handle higher refresh rates through HDMI or DisplayPort.

Connection Type: Ensure you are using a connection type that supports 144Hz. Typically, HDMI 2.0 or later and DisplayPort 1.2 or later can support 144Hz at certain resolutions. HDMI 1.4, for example, is limited to 60Hz at 1080p.

Steps to Ensure 144Hz Output

Check Graphics Specifications: Verify that your laptop’s GPU supports 144Hz output. You can find this information in the specifications for the AMD Ryzen processor or the specific GPU model.

Use the Right Cable and Port:

  • If using HDMI, ensure both the laptop’s HDMI port and the external monitor support HDMI 2.0 or later.
  • For DisplayPort, ensure both ends support at least DisplayPort 1.2.
  • Some laptops may require a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter if a dedicated DisplayPort is not available.

Configure Display Settings:

  • Connect the external monitor to your laptop using the appropriate cable.
  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Click on the external monitor and look for the Advanced display settings link.
  • In the Advanced display settings, you should see the Refresh rate option. Select 144Hz if available.

Performance Considerations

Laptop Performance: Even if your laptop can output 144Hz, whether you can achieve a smooth 144fps experience depends on the performance of your laptop's GPU and CPU. Ensure that your laptop can handle the graphical demands of the applications or games you intend to run at 144Hz.

Resolution: Running at higher resolutions (like 1440p or 4K) at 144Hz can be more demanding than 1080p. Ensure your laptop's hardware can handle the resolution and refresh rate combination.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
