Hi @Musicman0071,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A pink bar across your HP Notebook 17’s screen could be caused by a hardware or software issue. Here’s how you can troubleshoot.

Check for External Display Issues

  • Connect to an external monitor using HDMI or VGA.
  • If the pink bar appears on the external monitor, it's likely a graphics driver issue.
  • If the pink bar does not appear, it could be a hardware issue with the laptop screen.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Go to Device ManagerDisplay Adapters.
  • Right-click your GPU (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) and select Update driverSearch automatically.
  • Restart your laptop and check if the issue is resolved.

Adjust Display Settings

  • Right-click on the desktopDisplay settingsAdvanced display settings.
  • Try lowering the refresh rate or resolution to see if the bar disappears.

Run HP Diagnostics

  • Turn off your laptop and power it back on while pressing F2.
  • Run a Display Test from the HP UEFI Diagnostics menu.
  • If the pink bar appears in the test, it’s likely a hardware issue.

Check for Loose Display Cable

  • If you're comfortable opening the laptop, check the LCD ribbon cable for any loose connections.
  • A faulty cable or damaged LCD panel might cause the issue.

Consider LCD Replacement

  • If the pink bar persists, the LCD panel may need replacement due to dead pixels or screen damage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Max3Aj

Thanks for your help. As you suggested it's a hardware issue, as also confirmed by the fact that the pink band is only with the HP Notebook screen and not on the external monitor. I'm happy to use the wide screen external monitor, Plan B, from now on and not have to buy a new computer. A call from  NERDSONSITE also said it would be half the price of a new computer (labour and parts) to replace the screen, so I'm very glad to have the LG wide screen to switch to. God Bless You in Jesus' Name for your help. Have a great weekend!  🙂
