This is my sister in law's HP laptop. It's only 1.5 years old and it was a bad actor when she first got it. HP was nice enough to replace the HDD and a bunch of other items. Now the computer won't boot up or even start the HDD or fan. Nothing. When I press the power button, there is no sound or lights.
When I plug in the power cord, an amber light appears at the power jack. If I remove the battery, and plug in the power cord, that light turns white. With the power cord plugged in I can push the power button and get a single white flash on the caps lock key. . . .that's it! No fan, No HDD noise. No screen.
Any ideas?

Okay, I think this HP laptop is a goner. I called Costco concierge service and they had me perform some tests. Nothing but a black screen and no indication of any turn on process.
They have a two year extended warranty on laptops and I’ll take it back to them tomorrow to see what they might do for me. Really is a shame. Not much use from this computer and lots of problems. Luckily, there was nothing on the computer outside of a half dozen WORD files and some photos that were backed up a few months ago. Less than 50 Mbits!

As the store is honouring the warranty, I would request you to avail the service option and work on it as per your convenience and keep me posted on the results.
Have a nice day!

The Costco folks tried for an hour or so to get things fired up on this, but without success. The charging light was functioning, but nothing else.
Well, I wound up taking the laptop computer back to Costco. They refunded my money and I bought a new Dell about the sime size and function. They took the old computer, but I could not get to the hard drive. That part disturbed me a bit. Some personal information was on there. . . a resume. Not much else though.
