The screen is suddenly black, everything is responding well, I did drivers installation and update, did the BIOS update and forced shutdown the machine, and still nothing.

Hi @Bontle2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's screen is black but it works with an external monitor, it indicates an issue with the laptop's display or the connection to it. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

Check the Display Settings:

  • While connected to the external monitor, go to Display Settings.
  • Ensure the internal screen is detected and set as the primary display.

Toggle Display Modes:

  • Press Windows Key + P to open the Project menu.
  • Cycle through the different display modes (PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only) to see if the internal display comes back on.

Check the Brightness Settings:

  • Sometimes the brightness might be set to the lowest setting. Use the brightness keys on your keyboard to adjust it.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Unplug the power cord and remove the battery (if possible).
  • Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power cord, and turn on the laptop.

Check the Display Cable:

  • The internal connection between the motherboard and the display might be loose or damaged. This would require disassembling the laptop to check the cable.

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the display works there. If it does, there may be a software or driver issue.

External Display Test:

  • If possible, connect your laptop to a different external monitor or TV to rule out issues with the first external monitor.

Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use HP’s built-in hardware diagnostic tools to check for hardware issues.
    • Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
    • Press F2 to open the System Diagnostics menu and run the Display Test.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Sometimes resetting the BIOS to its default settings can resolve display issues.
    • Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS setup.
    • Find the option to reset to default settings and save changes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
