I’m facing black screen and flickering issues on my HP laptop (with AMD integrated GPU and NVIDIA RTX 3050). The screen goes black under GPU load, especially when the charger is plugged in. This happens while gaming or running GPU benchmarks (like Heaven Benchmark). It does not happen when on battery.
I’ve already:
Fully reset Windows (local reinstall)

@abc12352, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The black screen and flickering under GPU load (especially when plugged in) may stem from a combination of hybrid GPU mode conflicts, driver instability, or power delivery issues.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Update BIOS and Firmware
Ensure your BIOS is up to date. HP has released updates that address GPU compatibility and power management.
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page and enter your product number
- Download and install the latest BIOS and firmware updates.
Clean Install GPU Drivers
Conflicts between AMD and NVIDIA drivers in hybrid mode can cause flickering.
- Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to remove all AMD and NVIDIA drivers.
- Reboot and install:
- Latest AMD Radeon drivers from AMD’s official site
- Latest NVIDIA RTX 3050 drivers from NVIDIA’s site
Disable Hybrid GPU Mode (if available)
If your BIOS allows, switch from Hybrid/Auto GPU mode to Discrete GPU only (NVIDIA).
- Reboot into BIOS (usually by pressing Esc or F10 at startup)
- Look for Graphics Configuration or Switchable Graphics
- Set to Discrete/NVIDIA only
- Save and exit
Power Settings Adjustment
Sometimes, power delivery issues when plugged in can cause instability.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options
- Select High Performance
- Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings
- Under Graphics Settings, set both On battery and Plugged in to Maximum Performance
External Monitor Test
If the issue persists, try connecting to an external monitor via HDMI:
- If the external display works fine, the issue may be with the internal display cable or panel.
- If both screens flicker, it’s likely a GPU or motherboard issue.
If none of the above resolves the issue, it may be hardware-related, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
