@Nasr1988, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your system is experiencing a boot issue after the BIOS update, leading to a black screen with no response from the keyboard or USB ports. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot this problem:
Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the power and try booting again.
Attempt to Reset the BIOS
If the black screen persists, try resetting the BIOS to its default settings. You can do this by:
- Power off the laptop.
- Hold the Windows key + B (on some laptops, this may be the Windows key + V) and then press the power button.
- Hold both buttons for about 15 seconds.
- This should reset the BIOS settings, and you may see a recovery screen or BIOS screen.
Boot into Safe Mode
If your laptop is not booting into Windows normally, try booting into Safe Mode:
- Turn the system on and off three times in a row (by pressing the power button) to force a recovery.
- On the third attempt, your laptop should enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
- Once in WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings, and select Restart.
- After restart, choose the option to Boot into Safe Mode.
External Display Check
- Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or VGA (if available).
- This will help check if the issue is related to the laptop’s display.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for helping me solve the problem. I tried all the solutions but could not fix the problem. Please provide me with additional solutions. I am sure that the problem is caused by the BIOS update. Is it possible to use a CD to repair or update the BIOS? Please help me. Thank you.

@Nasr1988, You're very welcome—and thank you for the detailed follow-up. Since you're sure the issue started after the BIOS update, and the keyboard and USB ports aren't responding, it's likely that the BIOS update either failed or left the system in a "bricked" state.
✅ YES—you can use a CD/DVD to recover or re-flash the BIOS if your system supports booting from optical media and has a CD/DVD drive. Let's walk through BIOS recovery options using a CD.
📌 What You’ll Need
- Another working PC with a CD/DVD writer
- Blank CD/DVD
- Access to the HP Support Website
- Your laptop's exact model number
✅ Step 1: Find Your BIOS Recovery File
- Go to: HP Support.
- Enter your laptop’s model number.
- Navigate to the Driver – BIOS section.
- Download the latest or previous BIOS update utility (SoftPaq).
- Run the .exe file on the working PC—but don’t flash it.
- During setup, choose "Create Recovery USB or CD" (or similar).
- Select to create a CD/DVD.
💡 Note: If it doesn’t offer the option directly, extract the files (use 7-Zip if needed) and burn the *.bin or *.fd BIOS file and the included BIOS flashing utility (like HPBIOSUPDREC.exe) to the CD manually.
✅ Step 2: Use the CD for BIOS Recovery
- Insert the BIOS recovery CD into your broken laptop.
- Make sure the AC power adapter is connected.
- Try the following BIOS recovery key combo:
- Hold Windows key + B, then press the Power button for 2–3 seconds and release all keys.
- OR try Windows key + V instead of B if the above doesn't work.
- The system should attempt to read the BIOS from the CD and reflash it.
💡 You may hear beeping, fans spin up, or see a dim backlight—this means it’s trying to recover.
🛠️ Alternate Options
Option 1: Use a USB BIOS Recovery Drive
If your system doesn’t support CD boot recovery, try creating a BIOS recovery USB:
- Follow the same process as above, but select USB Flash Drive during setup.
- Insert the USB into the right-side port (on most HPs).
- Hold Windows + B, then press Power.
- Wait to see if recovery begins.
⚠️ If Nothing Works…
If these steps do not resolve the issue, you will have to visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
