Hi,
I'm having trouble trying to fix the I2C HID Device Code 10 error. I've read multiple forums including this one and tried uninstalling the device- it redownloads with the same issue. I've also tried updating the driver but windows says I have the latest drivers.
I've also formatted my laptop which didn't work. I'm starting to get desperate as HP support's help was to no use.
Could anyone help me out?
I'm using a HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy1xxx

The I2C HID Device Code 10 error can be frustrating, especially when it's persistent even after various troubleshooting steps. Since you've already tried uninstalling the device, updating the driver, and even formatting your laptop, here are a few advanced steps you can try to resolve the issue on your HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC.
Disable and Re-enable the Device in Device Manager
- Open Device Manager and locate the I2C HID Device under Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click on the device and select Disable. Wait a few moments, then right-click again and select Enable.
- This can refresh the device and potentially resolve driver conflicts.
Update Chipset Drivers
- The I2C HID device is linked to the system's chipset. Go to the HP support page for your specific model and download the latest chipset drivers from the Driver-Chipset section. Install and restart the PC.
Check for Windows Updates
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Ensure that your system is fully updated with the latest patches, especially those related to hardware and device drivers.
Install Intel Serial IO Driver
- The Intel Serial IO driver manages communication between the CPU and various hardware devices, including I2C devices.
- Go to the Intel website or your HP support page and download the latest Intel Serial IO driver.
Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
- Open a Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic and press Enter.
- Run the troubleshooter and let it detect and fix any hardware issues.
BIOS Update
- Check the HP support page for any BIOS updates available for your specific model.
- BIOS updates often include fixes for hardware-related issues. Install any available updates and restart the laptop.
Disable Windows Fast Startup
- Sometimes, Fast Startup causes issues with I2C devices.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save the changes.
- Restart your laptop and see if this resolves the error.

Check for Physical Issues
- If none of the software-based solutions work, the I2C error might be due to a hardware issue. The touchpad or touchscreen, which typically uses the I2C interface, could be malfunctioning.
Reinstall the Operating System with UEFI Settings
- If you've already tried formatting your laptop but the error persists, you might want to check if your laptop's UEFI settings are correctly configured.
- Sometimes reinstalling Windows from a UEFI USB drive after resetting the BIOS/UEFI can resolve deep-seated driver issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
