Good morning. For the longest time, whenever I am typing, the curser skips all over the place and I have to go back and correct everything line by line and word by word. Just typing this, the curser has skipped all over my typewritten text on my display. What could I have possibly hit on my keyboard to cause this.

Hi @BonkerzFL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you might be experiencing an issue with your laptop's touchpad or keyboard. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check Touchpad Settings: Sometimes accidental touches on the touchpad can cause the cursor to jump around. You can adjust touchpad sensitivity settings or disable certain gestures to see if that helps. You can typically find these settings in the Control Panel or Settings menu, depending on your operating system.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted touchpad drivers can also cause cursor-jumping issues. Try updating your touchpad drivers to the latest version available from the HP website.
  • Clean the Touchpad: Dirt, dust, or moisture on the touchpad surface can interfere with its functionality and cause erratic cursor behavior. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the touchpad surface gently.
  • Disable Touchpad While Typing: Some laptops have an option to automatically disable the touchpad while typing to prevent accidental cursor movements. Check your laptop's settings to see if this feature is available and enable it if necessary.
  • External Mouse: If you have an external mouse available, try using it instead of the touchpad to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the touchpad or if it's a more general input device issue.
  • Hardware Issue: If none of the above solutions work, there may be a hardware issue with your laptop's touchpad.

By trying these steps, you should be able to narrow down the cause of the cursor jumping issue and hopefully resolve it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
