Pavilion 23bw
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I just got a new Macbook Pro. I connected it via hdmi to an hp pavilion 23bw monitor that I've had for 5 years. I've used it with a dell desktop without any issue. Now, the resolution is all wrong. Basically, when I take something like a safari or chrome window and go full screen with it, I'm losing about the outer 10% of it. Apple was no help. We tried adjusting various settings on the macbook and I've completely stumped them. It's apparently something they've never seen before.

Welcome to HP support community.

How have you connected the monitor to your Macbook, VGA or HDMI?

Meanwhile, if you have connected it with VGA, press and hold Auto adjustment button to automatically adjust the screen image.

 I hope that helps.

Reduce the resolution on your Mac and check if that fixes the issue.

This seems to be a hardware issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I bought the monitors 5 years ago and they're out of warranty, so I didn't think there was anything that could be done. I was under the impression this forum was my only option. They're not going to 'fix' the hardware, are they?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
