HP Envy 15 j011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a  laptop HP Envy 15 j011dx which shipped with Windows 8, was previously upgraded to 8.1, and finally was recently upgraded to Windows 10. I have been having a number of issues with this machine. I am not sure what my problem is, and if it is hardware, driver, or configuration related.

The symptoms i am experiencing with the machine are as follows:
Display went to black in Windows 10 when working with intel hd graphic 4000 since June 2017.

Befor this date it was working fine with the installed drivers.
Checked all the hardware, diagnostic of the CPU, memory, seem fine.

Spent a frustrating while investigating, reinstalling, etc further. I go into Safe Mode forever with no problems. If I disable display drivers while in Safe Mode, I can go back to Windows and work in the system until it tries to install the the driver for Intel HD graphics 4000 again.

If I boot into Windows with the HD 4000 in the device manager (following an update for example), the screen just goes to black as Windows tries to load. However, when it is "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" it works until it tries to update.

If i enable these intel graphics in basic display mode, the screen went black immediately and then i have to go to safe mode to disable intel drivers.

I am also unable to manually install: A.) the driver from HP website, or B.) the Intel official driver.

I am pretty sure it does that the Intel processor diagnostic did run and it was fine/pass.

Sound like a hardware or software issue? I'm confused how it works fine forever in Safe Mode or until the HD 4000 driver is installed.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Greetings @ IKRAMKHAN,

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you have upgraded the OS on your computer to Windows 10 and the display goes blank when you turn on Intel HD graphics, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you tried to update all the drivers using HP Support Assistant?

Recommend you run HP Support Assistant on your computer to update all the drivers on your computer. Especially, BIOS and Chipset. Click here to know more about HPSA.

If the issue persists, recommend you revert the OS back to Windows 8.1 or 7 as the drivers are only available for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 on HP Website.

As the drivers are not available from HP for Windows 10, you would need to rely on Windows updates or HPSA for the drivers.

Let me know if this helped.

Yes!

I tried to update all the drivers using HP Support Assistant as well as intel update driver utility but the results are same.

But i want to tell you that the drivers worked well within my laptop window 10 since 2015.  I am facing this problem since June 2017.
This problem gets started from black spots on screen and screen tearing. After some days the diplay went black and now when i want to install, update or enable the drivers, the display went black and then i try to recover it by safe mode and disble the drivers to work with basic display.

And please guide me that how can i check if there is a problem with hardware graphic chip?

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps, there is no facility test the GPU on the computer. As you mentioned that the Intel graphics worked fine before the Creator update in June. Recommend you revert Windows 10 back to the previous build and check if it resolves the issue you are facing.

Open settings from the Windows menu.

Select Update and security.

Select Go back to an earlier build and follow on screen instructions.

Hope this helps.
