HP 4530s
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am using a HP 4530s with Intel HD 3000, accompanied the Core i3 - 2350M CPU. It had been running rather smoothly, even after the upgrades from Win 7 to Win 8, then to Win 10. But about 2 weeks ago, it updated to Win 10 Creator, and my problem appears. This newer Windows is not compatible with Intel HD 3000 driver, not from Intel website, HP website, or from Windows 10's auto-update feature (I have downloaded the newest versions from each website). Try to install any of those will result in black or grey screen. So now I am stuck with 1024x768 resolution from the Window Basic Adapter Driver, while the native resolution is 1366x768. As a result, reading/writing is now a taxing issue, and watching is impractical. The last resort is to reset back to Windows 7, but really I dont want to do that, with the data wiping and then the security vulnerability. Is there any solution? I am thinking about rolling back to Windows 10 pre-Creator, but unsure how to do that.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

I don't think the HD4530 is the problem, as I ran an HD4200 with Win10 without problems.  Instead, it's more likely the HD 3000.

And unfortunately, according to AMD:

The last operating system supported using the AMD drivers was Microsoft Windows® 8 with the AMD Catalyst 13.1 driver package. Driver support for these products under Windows® 8.1 and Windows® 10 is only available via Windows Update. Please enable Windows Update to allow it to automatically detect and install display driver version 8.970.100.9001

These instructions were posted on Win10 forums from folks who figured out HOW to install HD 3000 ATI Legacy drivers in Win10.  I know they work because I have an old desktop with that video chipset and it works:

REMOVE the Windows 10 "AMD Install Manager" first, though.

- Install all components of the driver normally (Catalyst Control Center etc.)
-> The graphics driver itself will fail - you need to install it manually using the Device Manager!

- Open the Device Manager (right click on Start-Icon in left corner), go to "Graphics Card"
- Right click on the card and select "Update driver..." from the context menu (first entry)
- Click on "Search for a driver on the computer" (second entry)
- Click "Select driver from list"
- Click on the "Device..." button in the right corner
- Select the driver file (*.inf) from the extracted ATI folder. In my case, this was C:\AMD\Support\13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\Display\W86A_INF.

There are a few different files, it seems the dialog will choose the right one if you simple select one of them... TRY IT FIRST! Otherwise you could try to read the .inf files (they are just plain text files - maybe you'll find your chipset in there...
- Click on OK, the dialog will now show one or two entries, which should have the name of your graphics card - select one of them
- Click on Next - the screen(s) will go black and flicker, you will hear the device connection/disconnection sounds several times. Don't worry, everythings works as intended! 🙂
- The driver should now be ready - restart your system, and you should now be able to control your graphics settings using the Catalyst Control Center.

Good Luck

Thank you WAWood for your quick and detail answer, but I think my graphical adapter is an integrated Intel HD 3000. It is not AMD. My notebook is HP Probook 4530s. Installing Catalysm Control Center therefore is kind of, unrelated?

Sorry, you're right -- I thought you had an ATI HD3000 chip.

Below is what happened when I install Intel drive (from Intel website). Most of the time it will result in grey/black screen, but sometimes (this is the third time) it will actually provide me 1366x768 resolution. However, in the device manager it looks like this

I wonder if Windows has stop this device from working (as seen in the screenshot), then what is the driver that is being used here right now? Because it allows the native resolution. Although in the right click on desktop / display setting windows, the resolution is greyed out.

If I hibernate or restart the computer, it will be updated by Windows 10 and will lead to grey screen, which will force me to remove it and back to Microsoft Basic Adapter Drive.

Any suggestions?
