HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fa-0000 (8Z8P5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My quite new Envy X360 had terrible trouble booting up but we managed to reset the bios and now it does come on  (so far at least on 3rd attempt) however every now and then the screen goes completely black while using (i.e. not gone to sleep) and can't be stimulated to come back. Have tried the tips.  Then later if laptop nudged etc the screen might pop back on.  Have run diagnostic tools etc which say everything fine.  But it's not.  Could it be a loose connection?

Thanks Dravenlocke87.  My laptop is now working fine.  The screen blacking out must have been because after using it for some time it overheated.  It had been sitting on top of my old smaller laptop so that there was no space under the air vent. Since putting it flat on the desk so that the little feet provide sufficient clearance I haven't had that problem again.

Getting a new machine can certainly throw up some teething problems!

Just posted my query but my OH thinks it could be due to overheating - had it sitting on top of smaller old laptop which might have blocked the air vent.  Will see how it goes.....what do you think, could that have caused the screen problem?

Sounds really frustrating! It definitely could be a loose connection, especially since nudging the laptop seems to bring the screen back. I’d suggest checking the hinge area or having a technician look at the internal connections. Sometimes, even something small like a poorly seated display cable can cause this. Hopefully, it’s a quick fix and not a major hardware issue!
