Yesterday after my laptop has updated and I've restarted it, I connected it to the TV with the HDMI cable, the Invalid Format comes out.  What might be the cause and how to prevent it from happening?

I've connected with my friend's Laptop and with his, it's just fine and I set my Laptop Resolution same as his but still, it's not showing on TV.

Anyone to help?

Thank You

Hi @ShiKoKa,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and want to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the display not working when connected to your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Did it happen after a software or Windows update?

Have you tried to connect using different HDMI cable?

When was the last time it worked without these issues? Have you attempted a system restore?

For now please try these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphic drivers from this link: https://support.hp.com/drivers

If it still does not fix the issue, please perform the relevant steps for HDMI related issues from this link:  HP PCs - Troubleshooting HDMI Display and Sound Issues (Windows 10, 8, 7)  regarding video issues. If there is no hardware issue with the computer, this should do the trick for you.

HP Notebook PCs - Connecting a Monitor, Projector, or TV (Windows 10, 8, 7)

For a projecting the screen to a wireless display please follow the steps in this document:  https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c05189396

Please focus on the HDMI issue and try to resolve it first.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshootingsteps. Instead,

just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead.

Cheers!

Thank you Mr. Jeet Singh for your help and you've asked about my PC's Model and it's HP 15AY105.

Well, i did a HDMI Troubleshooting but didn't help and i've tried with a different HDMI cable on my TV & on my friend's TV but still it's bringing on the Invalid Format message and with my friend's PC, it works very well on both of our TVs and with both HDMI cables.

Will try with the Drivers and will let you know how it went.

Thank you again

Good Day Mr. Sigh

Well, I've performed all and as per sequence as the instructions but until now, I still have a problem.

After I have performed as required, I connected my Laptop to different screens with different HDMI cables but still, Invalid Format message keeps on coming on.

What do you think might be the cause of this and what best solutions might be...?

Thank You for your Help.....
