Laptop mouse pad/touchpad so sensitive when I try to move cursor across screen, for example to the scroll bar, it opens things, like ads or other things, that I had no intention of opening, sometimes no matter how carefully or lightly I try to touch it. Frustrating !

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
- Press the Windows key + I together to open the Settings app and go to Devices.
- Select the Touchpad tab. On the right-side pane, you can click the Touchpad sensitivity drop-down box to adjust the sensitivity level of your touchpad.
Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02005814 to know more about Touchpad Sensitivity and Cursor.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

I was able to follow your instructions and adjust the sensitivity, but it was already on medium, and I changed it to low. I can't tell yet if I will click Accept As Solution tab.
Are you sure the support link:
HP Notebook PCs - Touchpad Sensitivity and Cursor Issues on Certain Models | HP® Customer Support
mentioning downloading the Synaptics touchpad driver, applies to this model HP laptop?
Thank you for your help.
