Hi @pmba,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Connection Ports:
- Ensure that your laptop and the monitor are correctly connected using the appropriate cable (e.g., HDMI, VGA, USB-C, DisplayPort).
- Verify that both ends of the cable are securely attached.
Detect the Second Monitor:
- Go to Settings by pressing the Windows key + I.
- Select System and then Display.
- Scroll down and click on Multiple displays.
- Click on Detect to try to manually detect the second monitor.
Check Display Settings:
- In the Multiple displays section, ensure that Extend these displays is selected from the dropdown menu. This setting allows you to extend the desktop over two screens.
Update Graphics Driver:
- Sometimes the issue might be related to an outdated or incompatible graphics driver.
- In Settings, go to System and then Display.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
- Click Display adapter properties for Display 1.
- Under Adapter Type, you can see the adapter details and update the driver if necessary.
- Alternatively, you can use Device Manager to update the driver:
- Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click on the display adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure your Windows 11 is up to date:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Click Check for updates.
Enable Secondary Display in BIOS:
- In some cases, the BIOS settings can affect external display detection.
- Restart your laptop and press the entry key (commonly F10 or Esc) to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to Configuration or Advanced settings and ensure that external display settings are enabled.
I hope this helps.
