Elite X2 1012 G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having an issue with my HP Elite X2 1012 G2.

I turned it on this morning, but the screen is just black doesn't respond. The camera works, as it logs me in with Windows Hello, but the screen doesn't do anything. Have tried resetting and doing everything, apart from a full system restore; which I'm trying to avoid as far as possible.

I've attached to an external monitor and it all works fine. Any help or suggestions pleeeease? The warranty ran out on the 18th November, typically.

If you can see the desktop on the external monitor, use the following procedure to invoke Windows presentation mode.

Booted into Windows , hold down the Windows key and tap the P key.

It may be currenty set to "second screen only".  That would explain seeing only the external screen.

Use the mouse or touchpad to select and click on "duplicate".

Kindly post your result here in your thread.

Hi,

That was my first thought too. Sadly, even selecting as duplicate etc. doesn't present any content on the machine itself.

Thanks

Do you have the keyboard connected?

Swipe from the right to see if it is in tablet mode. If it is, click on the icon to put the diaplay in desktop mode.

Leave the external display connected and power on the notebook and immediately start tapping the F2 key to invoke the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics utility.

At the first screen select Component tests.

Test the Display.

Yes, the keyboard is attached and in desktop mode. However, when I turn it off and try and provoke the diagnostics, it doesn't use the attached monitor so I can't see anything that's being detailed....

You are stating that with the external display connected, you are pressing start and  tapping the F2 key and you see nothing on the external display?

Is that accurate?

Yes, that's correct. I initally thought that maybe I could have a look in the BIOS, but I can't provoke that page to appear either as I believe it defaults to the machines native screen.

Did this happen as a result of a BIOS, driver or Windows update?

No. I was using the machine yesterday, with no issues the BIOS is still the update from August, the last Windows update was last week and I've only updated the drivers again this morning, after it was not working. Simply turned it on today and nothing. :Crying:

EDIT: I'm assuming at this point, that the only thing that could be the cause is hardware derived...
