@spyguy0215, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Reattaching a Key with a Scissor Mechanism!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If the "A" key has fallen off your HP laptop or desktop keyboard, and you also have the scissor mechanism detached, you might be able to reattach it by following these steps:

Inspect the Pieces: Ensure you have both the keycap and the scissor mechanism. The scissor mechanism typically comprises two interlocking pieces that create a cross-like structure.

Position the Scissor Mechanism:

  • Place the scissor mechanism onto the key’s slot on the keyboard. Ensure it is correctly oriented and fits snugly in place. Usually, there are small tabs or hooks on the keyboard base or the keycap that the scissor mechanism fits into.

Secure the Mechanism:

  • Gently press down on the corners of the scissor mechanism to secure it into place. Listen for a soft click that indicates it has snapped into position.

Reattach the Keycap:

  • Position the keycap over the secured scissor mechanism. Ensure it is aligned properly with the base and that any hinges fit into their corresponding slots.

Snap the Keycap Into Place:

  • Apply gentle, even pressure on the keycap until you hear it click into place. Be careful not to use excessive force that might damage the mechanisms.

Test the Key:

  • Gently press the key to ensure it's functioning correctly and has the same feel as surrounding keys.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
