Help! This keeps happening, usually when I'm typing fairly fast. But today I'm in the middle of a word document and my keyboard just keeps locking. Fortunately the mouse pad and clicker still works. Holding the right shift doesn't make any difference and the filter keys mode is not switched on. It is incredibly frustrating.

Hi @Queencatifah, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy keyboard keeps locking while typing, try these troubleshooting steps:
Restart Your Laptop
A simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
Check for Stuck Keys
Press every key to ensure none are physically stuck.
Use the On-Screen Keyboard
- Press Win + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.
- Try clicking keys on it to see if the issue is software-related.
Disable Sticky Keys & Filter Keys
Even if you checked, confirm they are off:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard (or Ease of Access > Keyboard in Windows 10).
- Turn off Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys.
Update/Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
- Press Win + X > Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards > Right-click your keyboard > Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- If the issue persists, right-click the keyboard again and select Uninstall device, then restart your laptop.
Check for BIOS or Firmware Updates
- Visit HP Support and enter your model number.
- Look for BIOS or firmware updates related to the keyboard.
- Follow HP's instructions to update.
Test in Safe Mode
Boot into Safe Mode and check if the issue persists:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- Go to Boot > Check Safe Boot > Click OK and restart.
- Test your keyboard. If it works fine, a third-party program may be causing the issue.
Try an External Keyboard
If an external keyboard works fine, it may be a hardware issue with your built-in keyboard.
Reset Keyboard Settings
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.
- Under Preferred Languages, make sure your language is at the top.
- Remove and re-add the keyboard layout.
Perform a System Restore
If this started recently, try restoring your system to an earlier point:
- Press Win + R, type rstrui, and hit Enter.
- Choose a restore point before the issue started.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
